Blue-Gray Election Day

Election Day

I’ve already voted
so after the morning rain
I went to the library.

I picked up a book on Hold

Awakening the Heroes
Within

for a Study Group Discussion

Already this Election Day has a
heightened tension about it!

I am struck by the symbolism
everywhere.

The brown leaves you see here
are from the acorn
of the famous Athens'
 “tree that owns itself.”

Among the brown leaves I see
green patch of clovers.

“Where’s that four-leaf one?”
We need it so much today.

Since I’m taking photos of
my Election Day journey
I take one of my faithful
blue car

a 1996 Mercury Mystique.

Lord! 22 years old!

No heat or AC
the driver window doesn’t operate,
and I have wide strips
 of clear packing tape
holding on the right head light cover.

Thank you little blue car
for keeping me going
on my one
 wild and precious journey!

At the grocery store
I am struck by the
changes I’ve witnessed
in over eighty years of living.

I remember my first pack
of cigarettes
Pall Malls.
And I remember when I quit!

In the parking lot I see
gray skies one way

and a hint of blue in the other direction.

How will the election end?

I was reminded today of a song
I composed entitled

"Forgive Them"

One verse is this:

Still I believe that in some way
evil has it’s part to play
for light will come from darkness
It’s always been that way.

Father, forgive them,
Mother, forgive them,
Children, forgive them, too.
For they know not
what they do.

Living in voluntary simplicity
 is a life style choice.
I earned my own money.
then retired early.

I set out to complete my life journey
by living each day
to the fullest.
living within my means,

from planting azaleas
to composing music.

Two years ago,
I converted my dining area
into a little cabaret
where I can live out my
Silent Dreams
 and never have to
suffer jet lag!!

(Thank you, Social Security!!
and thank you, Kelly DuMar, IWWG,
for being the inspiration for
this Election Day blog post )
