Racing Toward Nirvana!

Racing Toward Nirvana
I’m supposed to be cleaning out stuff,
Throwing away 5 THINGS every day!

But now I’m come upon this sketch for a Musical,
 Racing Toward Nirvana!

This would’ve been back in the 80’s
New Age Resurgence
The Harmonic Convergence

Remember that?

I see I've written on the stage set sketch,
Kundalini, Reflexology,
Brain Tuning, $10, Past Life Regressions
Holographic Breathwork.

I learned a lot then, took to some of it,
tossed out the rest.

I consider myself a HEALTHY SKEPTIC
And believe the body has it’s own wisdom
and wants to heal itself.

Here are some books I’ve yet to throw or give away.

Writing this Blog is like chronicling my life,
so maybe I can say Good-bye to an era
& put them in the Library Book Sale.

But, let me linger a little longer
back in the 80’s. . .
I pictured a musical in which we've
created a great new loving, healing energy as the Finale.

But first I'd written this humorous Opening Song.

RACING TOWARD NIRVANA!
Channeling messages from past lives regressed,
A crystal, a charkra, a con-nect-ed-ness,
Dreamers and healers and questors and feelers,
We’re Racing Toward Nirvana.

We go with the flow and follow our bliss
A mantra, or tantra or self-analysis,
If we can buy it, we’ll run out and try it,
We’re Racing Toward Nirvana.

Metaphysics and psychic readings,
Green and yellow auras,
Guided visualizations
None of these bore us!

Brown rice and tofu and macrobiotics,
We’re healthy holistically, enlightened neurotics,
Sufi’s and swami’s and guru’s and llami’s,
We’re Racing Toward Nirvana.

A bad Tarot reading will find us needing,
To consult with an astrologer,
She says, “You shouldn’t have paid,
Mercury’s in retrograde!”
We’re Racing Toward Nirvana.

Metaphysics . . . .chorus, repeat

We sample the wares at psychic fairs,
Pisces and Libras and Capricorns,
We’ll drink a toast of herbal tea to your health,
We’re Racing Toward Nirvana,
Yes, We’re Racing Toward,
We’re Racing Toward,
We’re Racing Toward Nir - va - na!

There is some poetry written
in that same old yellow legal pad

I see I had copied out words
from the Tao . . .

I was just turning 5O then,
A lot of growing and consciousness raising
discovering things
illusions breaking apart
 evolving into  . . .

Maybe that’ll be the next blog . . .

stay tuned . . .

THE FUN OF MAKING FUN!

SCRAPS OF (RETRO) LIFE

Sept. 15, I  sketched

the lime green coleus going to seed

with those long tiny purple blooms the bees love.

 I sketched the “must-have”

cream white “retro-phone”

 I bought for my birthday.

I made a collage cover for

my next journal

 added the

beautiful Retro-’51 pen

a birthday gift from my writing buddy.

Sept 21:

Even though I’d had a

wonderful birthday, nothing lasts!

By Tuesday, I was writing in my journal

that “everything’s parched,”

that my arm is killing me from the clarinet class,

that “the hose sprang a leak!”

That evening I had a disturbing phone conversation.

Then I wrote, “Lord let me draw a few clouds

 of Never Never Land and/or

 a soft bubble bath.”

I was awake for 3 hours and kept

looking at my broken heart

 paper collage

I had to get up and get some

colored card stock

and try to tear it and make another,

 but I couldn’t

and just wound up

 with colored bits of paper

strewn in the rumpled sheets.

Sept: 23:

I go to From Athens to Broadway class

another birthday present to myself

(who am I kidding?? I just turned 74!)

The classmates are wonderful! All ages!

I’m going to present the

songs from Silent Dreams.

And last night I picked up

all the tiny scraps of collage paper

still on the night stand

and pasted them in the journal.

Even when things fall apart

and your arm still hurts,

those leftover bits of

dreams or hopes

or scraps of torn paper

can be made into art

or music

 or a story!

The FUN of making FUN

is that I can never take myself

too seriously!!

I can put on a new

recycled blouse to wear

and pretend I'm an aging movie star.

TAO, INSOMNIA & ONE-CLICK PURCHASES

Tao, Insomnia & One-Click Purchases

I’m worried about Identity Theft.
Cautious about giving my Credit Card number
to Amazon or Best Buy.

But,
 once upon a time,
I was awake at 2 a.m.,
a time when,
apparently, my rational senses had left!

AND

I had recently created the
ONE CLICK PURCHASE!

That night I ordered a midnight blue
JVC camcorder.

I not only easily learned it quickly
and how to upload,
 but also,
 this beautiful blue camera
takes stills,

and that has changed my life!

Nearly a year later,

I was awake at 3 a.m.
listening to the BBC World Service.

I heard an announcement
for a MY WORLD BBC Film Competition.

I used the camera, I-Photo & my own music
through Garage Band to make a
mini-movie!

The folks at BBC liked the submission
and encouraged me
to develop the original idea
into a narrated script.

It made the BBC Short List.

Somebody recognized my talents
after all these years!

This is affirmation
of a new found faith in something
invisible working in a benevolent universe.

I just need to attend to what I love most.

Gardening, photos, and poetry.

And maybe I’ll sleep better, too.

Nature photos led to the next mini-movie

After An April Rain

The camera takes amazing close-ups

has opened up the small unseen world

in my own back yard.

Like all the beautiful fungi

growing on the branch.

and two more mushrooms

that sprouted over night.

That’s what the Tao is about.

Paying attention to the natural world.

Tao works with what is natural.

MOTHER LOVED FERNS!

Mother Loved Ferns

Mother loved ferns.
And I love ferns now.

Troy & Tobi made a stepping stone
for my garden to remember her.

I’ve sprinkled in some fern photos
from my garden
as I tell you about Mother.

She called herself a fern collector.
Though she had only a
small patch of garden outside
her back door in Between, GA.
on Hwy. 78.

She started going to Fern Shows.
Found some bed sheets with
a fern print and had a lady
make her some curtains
out of them,
and a sleeveless dress, too
with two big pockets, upon which
she embroidered her monogram
M.A.D.
Margaret Ashurst DeLoach.

She was one of the first in
Georgia to apply for a
Vanity License Plate
that read - F E R N -

She put it on her little used
green Volkswagon that came with
bullet-hole decals on a side window,
as if Bonnie & Clyde
might’ve owned it once.

She was one of a kind!

And maybe that’s what they’ll
say about me,
 a Chip
off a beautiful ol’ block.

Life is really beautiful when you
take time to
reflect.

stay tuned . . .
